Dear reader,

Welcome back to Tufts! We’re so excited to begin the new school year, and as classes begin, so too does the production and publication of The Tufts Daily. This semester, we will be printing twice a week, on Mondays and Thursdays. On those days, you can find copies of the Daily in the Campus Center, Dewick, Carm, Dowling and Tisch. On all other days of the week, you can find the paper online at tuftsdaily.com. Please note that we will be in half production for the first three weeks of the semester, meaning we will publish only every other day until Sept. 28, when we will begin full production.

We appreciate your subscription to our newsletter and are so looking forward to entering our 42nd year of informing and educating this exceptional community. And if you’re interested in joining us in that endeavor, we’d love to have you. Visit tuftsdaily.com/join-us/ to get involved.

All the best for a great school year ahead,
Maddie Aitken, Editor in Chief
Mariel Priven, Managing Editor
Kate Seklir, Managing Editor

Approximately 100 first-year students will live this year in the Hyatt Place Medford, which lies more than a mile from the center of campus. Several students who now reside there believe the accommodations do not sufficiently imitate the community environment promoted by on-campus, dorm-style housing.

The Class of 2025 — made up of more than 1,800 students — is by the far the largest in university history. It even boasts a two-time Olympian and a recent competitor on American Ninja Warrior

In other news, Carmichael Dining Center this semester is rolling out a new menu that exclusively features peanut-, tree nut- and gluten-free foods. Also, vocalists, winds and brass players are being welcomed back to their ensembles and practice rooms this semester after pandemic-related restrictions kept them on the sidelines for most of the 2020–21 academic year.

ORLL houses approximately 100 first-years in Hyatt Place Medford
For the first time in more than 40 years, the university elected to house a portion of the first-year class in a hotel off campus. Dean Lizarríbar said this resulted in part because the desire to attend Tufts is the highest it has ever been.

"
In a normal year, a small number of students elect to attend college elsewhere, apply for a personal or medical leave, or request a gap year,” Lizarríbar wrote in an email to the Daily. “That did not happen this summer as much as anticipated.” READ MORE.
