Your Tuesday Briefing

The cities of Somerville and Medford are holding their primary municipal elections today. Voters in both cities will choose between candidates for both mayor and city council. While the Medford ballot includes incumbent mayor Breanna Lungo-Koehn, Somerville's race features four new candidates, following mayor Joe Curtatone's decision not to seek reelection. 

In other news, the women's soccer season is off to a historic start after beating Williams on Saturday for the first time since 2006. 

Student Life offers orientation events for Class of 2024 
After the Class of 2024 missed out on in-person orientation in 2020, the university this fall hosted an illumination ceremony and other traditional orientation activities for the current sophomore class. 

Dean of Student Affairs Camille Lizarríbar said that "sophomores in particular deserve some special attention and the chance to bond as a class given the difficult circumstances they faced last year.” READ MORE.

Ward 7 City Councilor Katjana Ballantyne, Councilor At-Large Will Mbah, Mary Cassesso, the former chief community officer at Cambridge Health Alliance, and businessperson William Tauro will round out the ballot in Somerville. READ MORE
