Dr. Mona Hanna, activist who helped expose Flint water crisis, speaks at Tufts

Dr. Mona Hanna, a renowned pediatrician, scientist and activist, spoke at the Tufts Center for Medical Education on Wednesday as part of the Tisch College Solomont Speaker Series. She discussed her research and her ongoing efforts to advance public health and combat infant poverty. The discussion was moderated by Dr. Margie Skeer, a professor at the Tufts University School of Medicine.

States to watch: 2024 presidential election

Pennsylvania’s history of switching between political parties makes it a critical state this year. President Joe Biden won the state in 2020 by less than 1.2%. Polling indicates that this state is even, leaning neither red nor blue. An average of Pennsylvania polling data showed a 0.2% lead in favor of former President Donald Trump, with statistics showing47.9% for Trump and 47.7% for Vice President Kamala Harris as of yesterday.

Salvadoran journalist and Boston civil rights lawyer discuss democracy, 2024 election, immigration policy during lecture

The Department of Romance Studies hosted a discussion on Oct. 3 titled “The High Cost of Democracy, Freedom of the Press, and Immigration Policy,” focusing on the political climate in El Salvador and its parallels with politics in the United States. The event featured two speakers: Óscar Martínez, a Salvadoran journalist and co-founder of Latin America’s first digital newspaper, El Faro, and Iván Espinoza, executive director of Lawyers for Civil Rights in Boston.
