Bostonians call for democracy on International Women’s Day

Every year, March 8 marks International Women’s Day, a holiday dedicated to honoring women’s achievements and progress toward gender equality. Yet, for many, this year’s observance felt different, as a heavy sense of urgency permeated the air. With restrictive policies under the new administration threatening to reverse hard-won gains, the specter of setbacks loomed large, igniting fresh fears. But it also sparked renewed determination to rise up and fight back.

In Hawa‘i, tradition and history aren’t just remembered — they’re lived. Lu‘aus bring people together through music, hula dancing and a feast of flavors like kalua pig and haupia. Spam musubi — a grilled, teriyaki-glazed Spam atop a block of rice, wrapped in crisp nori — is a relished snack. The rhythmic pulse of pahu drums echoes through hula performances and sacred ceremonies, their deep tones carrying the stories of generations. With each movement of hula, hands and bodies speak a language of their own, preserving and sharing the spirit of Hawai‘i.

Tufts Marathon Team’s journey to the finish line

The first rays of sunlight have yet to brush the sky and the streets are cloaked in icy darkness. But for 15 students on the Tufts Marathon Team, this frigid Monday morning brims with energy. They lace up their sneakers, scarf down bananas, chug water and slide in their AirPods, queuing upbeat tunes. While the world around them remains in a quiet slumber, they are awake in every sense. Each stride builds unshakable endurance, every hill sharpens their resolve, and these cold, early hours forge the mental steel they’ll need to conquer the legendary 26.2 miles from Hopkinton to Boylston Street on Marathon Monday. In these cold, pre-dawn hours, they’re already champions in the making.

Tufts’ Department of Earth and Climate Sciences to introduce new majors, minors

Tufts’ Department of Earth and Climate Sciences will introduce two new majors, Earth Science and Climate Science, along with a new minor in Earth and Climate Sciences, starting in fall 2025. The current departmental offerings — majors in environmental geology and geological sciences and minors in geology and geosciences — will be phased out with students who graduate in spring of 2027.

Tufts to launch mobile-friendly parking permit system in 2025

Tufts will roll out a new parking permit system on Jan. 2, 2025, designed to streamline the permit-purchasing process across its Medford/Somerville, Grafton and School of the Museum of Fine Arts campuses. This transition will replace the existing parking permit system, which will officially end on Dec. 23.
