Career fair faces anti-military protest, TUPD investigating anonymous vandalism of Gantcher

On Sept. 27, a protest outside this semester’s career fair in Gantcher Center condemned the inclusion of national defense and military research recruiters, making it the latest Tufts career fair in the last year faced with student demonstrations. Spray-painted messages denouncing the presence of groups such as the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Lincoln Laboratory were found on the doors of Gantcher.

Political campaign managers discuss winning strategies during first event of Tisch “Election 2024” series

The first panel of Tisch College’s “Election 2024” event series, titled “What Makes a Presidential Campaign Work and How to Get on the Campaign Bus,” was held in Barnum Hall last Tuesday.Panelists included experienced political strategists hailing from both the Republican and Democratic parties, including former White House legislative director Louisa Terrell, who is currently serving as a Visiting Fellow at the Tisch College of Civic Life. A Tufts alumna, Terrell works as a senior advisor to Vice President Kamala Harris’ presidential campaign.

Updated protest guidelines to take effect this school year

In an email sent to Tufts community members on Aug. 22, University President Sunil Kumar and 12 other university leaders announced new updates to the university’s “time, place and manner” policies around campus activism. The updated guidelines, which apply across all of Tufts’ campuses, serve as a revision to preexisting school policies designed to prevent general disruptions to students’ education, according to university leadership.

SMFA professors of the practice hold first contract negotiations

Professors of the practice at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts at Tufts held their first-ever bargaining session with the university on April 24, seeking a contract that would guarantee wage increases, enhanced research support and more transparent employment policies, among other negotiations. This marks the first time that SMFA professors of the practice have initiated a bargaining agreement since Tufts merged with the SMFA in 2016.

Pilot program to extend JCC hours for April

On any given weekend morning, small crowds of students can be found waiting outside the Joyce Cummings Center entrance. Why? The building is closed to non-computer science students before 12 p.m. For this demographic, the following behavior is typical: fruitlessly pulling at the door handles, peering into the windows or awkward loitering until someone with the right keycard comes along.

Mass. House passes bill granting paid time off to workers on Election Day

The Massachusetts House passed Bill H.4217, which protects employees’ right to paid time off in order to be able to vote. The bill is currently under consideration by the Senate Committee on Ways and Means. This bill would allow any employee to request paid time off on Election Day to exercise their right to vote in person with the condition that they give employers three business days’ notice.
