Daily Digits

0 - The number of games the softball team has lost so far this season. With their win over Trinity on Sunday, the nationally ranked No. 8 Jumbos surpassed the program's longest winning streak of 20 wins set in the 1995-96 season. The 21-0 squad leads the NESCAC East division and represents the conference's only team in the national rankings. Moreover, the Jumbos are the only undefeated team left in Division III play.

20.2 - The average margin of victory for the NCAA champion UNC Tar Heels in this year's NCAA Tournament after pummeling the Michigan State Spartans 89-72 for the title. The Spartans couldn't compete with UNC's junior guards Ty Lawson and Wayne Ellington and senior forward Tyler Hansbrough, with Lawson setting a record-breaking eight steals and a team-leading 21 points. UNC's 54-33 halftime lead marked the largest halftime lead in the championship game in 42 years.

19 -  The number of points the Los Angeles Lakers led by, and consequently blew, in the fourth quarter against the Los Angeles Clippers on Sunday night. Boasting the second-best winning percentage in the league, the Lakers held a comfortable lead going into the fourth against the Clippers, who have won just 18 games this season. The Clippers, who have lost 12 of their last 15 games, rebounded in the fourth quarter, scoring 16 consecutive points, but it wasn't enough to pull off the upset. The Lakers took the game 88-85.

10 - Consecutive matches, including tournaments, that doubles partners junior captain Meghan McCooey and sophomore Julia Browne have won together. Dating back to Oct.5, 2008 in the Gail Smith Double Classic, the pair has reeled off the streak in dominating fashion. Yesterday, the pair won six straight games to break a 2-2 stalemate in a dual match against Amherst, surging to an 8-2 win over the Lord Jeffs. The streak includes McCooey and Browne's run to the Div. III semifinals last October.

8 - Years since the Trinity men's lacrosse team had beaten Tufts before last Saturday's two-goal victory in Hartford, Conn. Entering the game, the Jumbos had scored an average of 17.13 goals per game before the Trinity defense limited Tufts to nine. The Jumbos, who were ranked as high as No. 5 in the nation on March 30, had not scored fewer than 10 goals in their first eight games. The unranked Bantams tallied 11 goals in the contest, becoming the first team this entire season to score more than 10 against the stingy Jumbo defense.

124 - Consecutive starts that New York Yankee CC Sabathia had made without allowing 13 baserunners and striking out zero batters in the same game before opening day against the Baltimore Orioles. Sabathia, who came to the Yankees after signing a $161 million contract, gave up six earned runs on eight hits and five walks in 4 1/3 innings. The last time that Sabathia recorded a 13/0 game was on May 5, 2005.
