In Photos: Weekend wins for women’s basketball

During their last home weekend of the regular season, women’s basketball notched two wins, besting Wesleyan 76–42 on Friday and Trinity 68–59 on Saturday to improve to a 14–6 record. The game against the Bantams was also Senior Day for the four Jumbo seniors, Sofia Gonzalez, Annika Decker, Caitlyn O'Boyle and Mikayla Paquette. Look back on the action in Cousens Gym. In Photos: ‘Where Do We Go From Here?’

Students, faculty and members of the greater Medford/Somerville community gathered in Cohen Auditorium for Tufts University’s annual Martin Luther King Jr. celebration on Thursday. Titled “Where Do We Go From Here?” after King’s 1967 speech, the event featured speakers, including University President Sunil Kumar, as well as poetry, song and dance of both contemporary and traditional varieties. In addition, sophomore Sonia Broni received the 2025 MLK Student Voices Award winner. To cap off the night, two Tufts professors led a a traditional Ghanaian drum performance that ended in a procession to the nearby Alumnae Hall for a dinner reception.

On Sunday evening, Tufts received the largest snowfall of the winter yet, with several inches piling up in just a few hours. Throughout the evening, dozens of students layered up and braved the cold to build snowmen, sled down the slopes of Tufts’ hilly campus and throw snowballs at each other for hours.

The Tufts Gymnastics Team became officially recognized in January 2024 as one of Tufts’ newest club sports, open to students of all experience levels. In Photos: Step inside the Identity Centers

Dotted throughout Tufts’ campus are eight Identity Centers that compose the Division of Student Diversity and Inclusion. Visit these wood-frame houses for comfortable spaces to gather, study and find mutual community. Open during the week for student use, the centers also offer regular events, programs and mentorship. Many centers were founded and continue to be sustained as a result of student activism, most recently expressed in the calls to establish a Southwest Asian and North African identity center.

In Photos: Porter Square Books turns the page with new expansion

In November, Porter Square Books celebrated the official grand reopening of its Cambridge location — an expanded space 1,000 feet away from the previous shop. At 1815 Massachusetts Ave., the new location inside the Lesley University mall enabled the independent bookstore to expand its shelf capacity and offer more cafe seating. In Photos: Japanese Culture Club throws Studio Ghibli-themed Matsuri

Tufts students gathered at 51 Winthrop Street on Nov. 23 for the Japanese Culture Club Matsuri, an annual festival celebrating Japanese culture with this year’s theme inspired by Studio Ghibli. The event featured traditional music, dance performances, games and Japanese cuisine, including a performance by Brown University’s Gendo Taiko group.

In Photos: Tufts Ballroom Competition 2024

The annual Tufts Ballroom Competition brought collegiate teams and amateur ballroom dancers to the Joyce Cummings Center for a full Saturday of dancing. The Tufts Ballroom Team, the competition host, sent several pairs to the finals. Competition Coordinator Alejandro Forero Rey and Junior Competition Coordinator Eli Newman organized the event.

In Photos: Essence takes home the Riff-Off crown

Ten a capella groups. Only one victor. The Riff-Off brought all Tufts a capella groups under one roof at Cohen Auditorium in a competition sponsored by the Tufts University Social Collective. The Ladies of Essence defended last year’s win with another first-place finish on Friday night. The next-most votes went to the Jackson Jills while S-Factor landed in third place.
