New coronavirus variants prompt concern from Tufts health officials

The potential presence of highly transmissible variants in the community is something the university remains conscious of. Caggiano and Jordan mentioned that the samples collected through surveillance testing and provided to the Broad Institute do not provide information as to whether an individual is infected with a variant.

Tufts announces results of investigation into Jumbo statue mask incident

Tufts University announced the conclusion of a five-month-long investigation into an incident that occurred on Sept. 1. The Tufts University Police Department was dispatched to the Jumbo statue where a group of three women of color were hanging a mask on the statue as part of a Jonathan M. Tisch College of Civic Life initiative to promote JumboVote and Healthy@Tufts.

BREAKING: Racist incident occurs at diversity, equity and inclusion event

Karl Reid, executive director of the National Society of Black Engineers, was delivering a presentation on the importance of diversity and inclusion in the field of engineering as part of the School of Engineering’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Colloquium Series on Friday afternoon.   “During his presentation, someone gained control of the screen and scrawled a racist term across his slides,” Monaco wrote in the email.

Tufts sees 35% increase in undergraduate applications

Undergraduate applications for the Class of 2025 soared 35% since last year, with the most ethnically and racially diverse first-year applicant pool ever. More than 31,190 students applied for admission to the Class of 2025, which is the largest applicant pool in Tufts’ history, and for the first time, students of color make up a majority of U.S. applicants.

Tufts European Center announces virtual summer programs

The Tufts European Center announced that of their three annual summer programs, two will be held virtually and one will be canceled entirely for summer 2021. The European Center traditionally offers three short-term summer programs abroad: Tufts in Talloires, Tufts in Annecy and Tufts Summit.
