Lily Sieradzki | Media Junkie

For today's column, I'm going to be straying a bit from my recent pattern of feminist-y analyses of popular TV shows. I want to bring it back to the basics - journalism, its general health and its future.

Susie Church | Food Fight

Amidst the bustling and charming streets of the North End, you can hear whispers of how delicious the cannoli are there. But where exactly can they be found? Several tourist directories, and even a few locals, will direct you to Mike's Pastry Shop. A popular destination filled to the brim with cannoli in every flavor you can possibly imagine, Mike's is usually teeming with hungry tourists ready to try them all. However, a select few may also let you in on the secret of Maria's, a hole-in-the-wall pastry shop just down the road. Based on looks alone, they could not be more different. But each one makes a mean set of cannoli in its own right. So, which one truly wins? Read on to find out.

Adam Kaminski | The Cool Column

Considering I'm a confused freshman who only a few months ago didn't know what a "JumboCash" was, my transition to college has been relatively seamless. There have been few significant speed bumps and only manageable unexpected swerves. It's like I'm channeling Jimmie Johnson or something.

Bhushan Deshpande | Words of Wisdom

It has now been over two years since Tony Monaco was formally inaugurated as Tufts' 13th president. If you don't remember the ceremony, you didn't miss much - it was just a series of speeches under a tent on the Res Quad, something that you see at Commencement all the time. Total cost? $1,700,000.

Nimarta Narang | Hello U.S.A.

One of the biggest reactions I've received from others is the one I get when I tell people that I'm from Thailand. Also when I tell them that I don't have a favorite color - but let's get back to the Thailand thing. Immediately, their eyes will widen in shock as they look at me with a heightened sense of curiosity. Not really looking at me - mind you - but rather observing, as if trying to fit me into the schema they have for Thailand. I then administer a double shock when I reveal that I'm actually Indian, but was born and raised in Thailand. At this point, they are utterly bewildered and just don't know what to make of me.

Ben Zuckert | Straight Out of the Bible

Over the past few weeks, I've been reflecting on cultural appropriation. Over Halloween, I saw someone dressed as a Tufts Daily columnist. I didn't approach the student, but I was deeply offended.

Petar Todorov | Lab Notes

Fans of the HBO series "Game of Thrones" (2011-present) are well acquainted with the dire wolf pups that are adopted at birth by the Stark boys. These pups grow into fearsome beasts that follow and protect their masters diligently. In reality, domesticating a wolf is much more difficult and dangerous. A pup from the modern grey wolf will still grow to become a wild animal, the result of thousands of years of natural selection shaping these canids into cooperative hunters. So, how did the synergy between mankind and wolves yield the dogs of today?

Eloise Libre | Frankly Candid

The glory days of freshman year are over. The appeal of 3 a.m. Pizza Days has worn off, you've mastered the Joey schedule and - gasp - your unlimited meal plan is a thing of the past. You are suddenly thrown into a world without mountains of scrambled eggs, Tuesday stir-fry and the constant flow of Hodgdon coffee. When the tummy grumbles take over, you are faced with the harsh reality of fending for yourself.

Football | Long road to recovery for Tufts football

Every Monday at 11 a.m., head football coach Jay Civetti makes the walk from his office in the Steve Tisch Sports and Fitness Center to the Office of Undergraduate Admissions in Bendetson Hall. There, Civetti sits down with Lee Coffin, dean of undergraduate admissions. For about an hour, they talk - mostly about the future.
