Letter to the Editor

Dear Editor,

We were surprised and disappointed to read in the Nov. 4 issue of the Daily that a fellow Jumbo commented in the "Over-herd on the hill" feature: "Will there be a day when we accept bestiality the way homosexuality is becoming accepted today?"

Firstly, this statement is in and of itself both offensive and distasteful, particularly in light of recent events. Secondly, that the comment is treated as jest and quoted in a publication representing our student body is equally lamentable. Even if the intentions of this quotation were not to offend, people ought to consider the potential consequences that result when phrases are taken so brashly out of context.

As allies, we were disheartened when we read this quotation and we hope the Daily can be more cautious about the context in which they choose to quote fellow Jumbos. Thank you for your understanding.

Sincerely,
