iSIS is no more. While the actual system remains intact, the Integrated Information system (iSIS) returned to its former name of Student Information System (SIS) this semester. iSIS, which debuted in March 2013 as a replacement for the original SIS, is Tufts' online system of recording student information.   According to a statement from Tufts Technology Services (TTS) Director of IT Service Planning and Management Doug Anderson and TTS Director of Enterprise Applications Mark Damian, the decision was made based on the negative associations with the group Islamic State, formerly known as the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS). Alternatively known as the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant, ISIS is an al-Qaeda splinter militant group that seized control of areas in Iraq and Syria this summer.   "We have been monitoring the situation with ISIS since the beginning of summer," the statement read. "The decision to change the name culminated at the end of August."   Vice President for Information Technology and Chief Information Officer David Kahle, the Student Systems Steering Committee and a staff council were all involved in the decision to officially change the system's name, according to the statement.   "This is strictly a branding/nomenclature change; not a change to functionality," the statement read. "At this time, we have changed the service name to Student Information System (SIS) in key areas, including the Tufts homepage and the SIS login page."
