What do Tufts' only Disney-themed a cappella group Enchanted, Tufts University Television (TUTV) and Tufts Burlesque Troupe (TBT) all have in common? Orlando Economos is a member of all three.

Economos, a junior majoring in international relations and minoring in film, is a co-founder of Enchanted, which he established with Praz Perkasa, a junior, shortly after they arrived at Tufts.

“There was a lot of opposition walking into the room, seeing as we were going to be the ninth a cappella group on campus,” said Economos. “By the end of the meeting we had unanimous support from the board. They said, ‘This kid seems like he knows what he’s doing,’ which, probably, was their first mistake.”

Enchanted has operated for the past two years under Economos’ direction, but it now has new leadership in Adam Hotaling, a junior. Hotaling has taken over as president, as Economos will be spending the year abroad in London.

While the Disney theme can occasionally feel restrictive, the group tries to mix things up by performing original medleys and mashups, according to Economos. The array of eligible material has also expanded with Disney’s acquisition of the rights to the “Star Wars” franchise, he said.

Enchanted provided Economos an entry into TBT, after the a cappella group performed at TBT’s Dirty Disney show in the fall of 2013.

“Where else could I dance in such a body-positive and supportive environment?” said Economos of his experience with TBT.

Economos is also a member of TUTV, where he worked as cinematographer on “Wave Jacked” (2015).

Though he's heading to London soon, Economos plans to stay as involved as possible with his campus endeavors while abroad and to return to all of them upon his arrival back at Tufts.
