Ten not-necessarily-super-awful things that have happened recently

Too often the Top Ten in the Daily Arts section has been a box riddled with the sardonic musings of cynical editors. Today, in the face of violent world conflicts, shady politicians and Ebola, Arts brings you our top ten not-necessarily-super-awful things that have happened recently. Though some of these items may not be "current events" per se, a reminder that good things are happening -- or on their way -- is always relevant! We hope that this short list can offer you a small respite from the ever encroaching darkness of complete oblivion.

10. People’s Climate March in NYC: This past weekend, more than 400,000 people took to the streets of New York City in order to raise awareness about global climate change. And though it is a bit disappointing that in this day and age we need to march to raise awareness about a scientific fact, the solidarity and boldness of those brave souls is truly something to marvel at.

9. Dewick has pesto: Ok, so not really a piece of news but, wow, it's just so yummy and delicious. On a sandwich, on a salad, on a piece of toast or just in a bowl with a spoon, Dewick’s pesto situation is pretty great.

8. Hedy Epstein protesting in Ferguson: Hedy Epstein, a 90-year-old Holocaust survivor and activist, was recently arrested in Ferguson protesting the recent killing of Michael Brown. This little old hero is putting her life on the line for justice -- so dope.

7. Homecoming this weekend: Forecast is 75 degrees and sunny -- we can all finally pretend that we love sports and things! Yay sports teams.

6. Adjunct professors vote to unionize at Tufts: Joining the wave of awesome part-time faculty across the country, Tufts adjunct professors have come together and will negotiate pay, benefits and other awesome stuff super soon!

5. Fall is kinda here: So, the Fall Equinox happened Tuesday. And though we obviously have no idea what that means, we can tell you that cool fall seasonal things are gonna happen soon. So get out your Ugg boots and order those pumpkin spice lattes.

4. India sends an orbiter to Mars: India’s Mars Orbiter spacecraft just made its way into Mars' orbit.  This is a huge victory for humans everywhere! This may be our first step to our first steps on Mars. (See what we did there?)

3. The Soundtrack to “Shrek 2” (2004) is still really good: Do you remember that song "Accidentally In Love" by the Counting Crows? Listen to it! It's unbelievable.

2. WE WON A FOOTBALL GAME: GUYS SERIOUSLY THIS IS INCREDIBLE WOW WE DID IT HOW INCREDIBLE PROPS TO FOOTBALL.

1. Emma Watson's speech about feminism at the U.N.: Emma Watson totally killed it at the U.N. last Saturday with a speech for her new initiative “HeForShe.” Not only did she dispel some misguided ideas about feminism, she called for men and boys to join the cause! Ten points for humanity!
