Letter to the Editor

In response to recent news attention to the Tufts University Department of Political Science and in order to clear up any confusion, the faculty in this department unanimously issues the following statement:

  1. We have never had any ideological litmus tests for helping students get internship opportunities. We always have and will continue to support our students who want to work in offices across the political and ideological spectrum. We never had a meeting as a faculty where we decided to limit internships in any way.
  2. We have never had any ideological litmus tests for event sponsorships and co-sponsorships. We are committed to providing all our students with opportunities to learn from guest speakers from across the political and ideological spectrum. We never had a meeting as a faculty where we decided to limit event sponsorships or co-sponsorships.
  3. We are unequivocally on the side of promoting viewpoint diversity in learning and research. As political scientists, we believe that students and scholars benefit from learning about all sides of issues of politics and public policy.
