Adventures of an A-Lister: Reviewing the popcorn buckets

AMC Theatres’ popcorn buckets epitomize the good, the sexual and the uninspired.

With many highly anticipated franchise releases, AMC Theatres often will release a limited edition popcorn bucket to eager fans. Although pricey, these buckets are a fun piece of memorabilia for collectors and movie-goers. Today, I will highlight some of the more recent AMC popcorn bucket releases.

Wolverine Popcorn Container (Deadpool & Wolverine”)

Designed by Deadpool himself, this popcorn bucket is possibly one of the best pieces of Marvel merch to ever exist. The bucket features a detachable top piece for easy popcorn filling. The bottom portion seems to be hand drawn by Deadpool himself, while the top shows off Wolverine and his massive, wide open mouth. Towards the bottom of the bucket is the cheeky line “Can also be used for popcorn” — an obvious Deadpool-given sexual innuendo.

Bat Signal Light Popcorn Bucket (“Batman”)

To celebrate the 85th anniversary of Batman, AMC is releasing the Batman Bat Signal popcorn bucket. The Bat Signal comes just as stated, a classic version of the Dark Knight’s favorite mode of communication. The bucket itself has the bottom of the signal stand, with the top part functioning as the actual bucket. The signal, when faced bat-side-up, can open and be filled with obviously delicious treats, although some artificial light may just be what it needs to call our caped billionaire to the scene. More functional than the last, the Bat Signal is a great addition for DC merch collectors.

Art The Clown Popcorn Bucket (“Terrifier 3”)

With the release of “Terrifer 3” comes Art the Clown’s head as a popcorn bucket. Unlike Wolverine’s more unflattering (but amazing) depiction, this popcorn bucket is nothing short of detailed. The sculpted head features Art in a frozen scream, splattered blood stark against his white face. While the back of the head is mostly flat, a hatch against the base of the skull opens to reveal a place for your delicious popcorn — or other fun secrets. Art unfortunately is not as convenient of a popcorn bucket as Wolverine or Batman, but is still a delightful menace to keep on the shelf.

Mega Mel Popcorn Container (“Despicable Me”)

With the never-ending “Despicable Me” franchise must come a Mega Mel popcorn bucket. Our minion leader, Mel, stuns as the inefficient popcorn bucket here, his one-eyed laser goggle protruding out of his face in a perhaps heinous manner. Much like Art the Clown, Mel the Minion features a carefully sculpted body with a popcorn hatch built right into the back — although the design itself is a bit unsavory in the mouth region. All together, this cute yellow fellow may barely hold your popcorn, but fans of the movies may enjoy holding this despicable bucket near.

Facehugger Popcorn Bucket (“Alien: Romulus”)

Although no longer for sale from AMC, the release of “Alien: Romulus” came with a less flattering and inspired popcorn bucket. This bucket features its namesake, the Facehugger, hanging onto the side. The bucket itself is rather simple: black with no markings. Compared to the other recent releases, the Facehugger bucket is simple and boring, but easily the most efficient of all as a popcorn bucket.

Find these popcorn buckets and more collectables at your local AMC theater.
