There's no doubt that Tufts is expensive. More than 40 percent of the undergraduate student body makes use of Tufts' financial aid grants, loans and work-study options, according to the Office of Undergraduate Admissions. Textbooks cost about $900 a year, according to a July 2005 U.S. Government Accountability Office report. An article published in 2008 in the Wall Street Journal added that some universities are profiting from these sales by creating custom" versions of their textbooks.
The article reported that the University of Alabama forced freshmen to buy a custom composition textbook for $59.35. This textbook is almost identical to the non-custom version available new for about $54
