Women's Soccer | Jumbos tame No. 8 Lyons in 2-0 upset on the road

For the first time since 2005, Tufts derailed the regional powerhouse Wheaton Lyons, ranked second in the region, yesterday afternoon by a score of 2-0.

The win, which broke a series of frustrating losses to Wheaton and preserved the Jumbos' spotless 3-0 season record, ended a six-game winning streak for the Lyons, who were 8-1 prior to yesterday's contest.

Tufts, currently ranked fourth in New England, turned the tables on nationally-ranked No. 8 Wheaton, which has shut the team out the past two seasons. This time, the Jumbos held off an offense that has posted 16 goals in its last four games alone. Tufts has yet to give up a goal this season.

Tufts got the scoring started in the 42nd minute when sophomore Sarah Nolet sailed a free kick into the upper-right corner of the goal, which would put Tufts on top for good. Junior tri-captain Cara Cadigan added an insurance tally with four minutes to go, bringing her season total to a team-high three goals. Junior Kate Minnehan and sophomore Hannah Jacobs combined for the shutout.
