Jumbos may have noticed a few temporary changes to the Academic Quad upon their return to the Hill this semester.
A fence currently surrounds the grass between Dana Laboratory and West Hall. According to Vice President of Operations John Roberto, it is there to protect landscaping work done after an underground steam line running through the area was replaced.
"We put down sod, and we did appropriate repairs to the irrigation system. The fence is there to protect the sod," he said.
Roberto said he expects that the fence will come down by the end of the month at the latest.
In addition, Braker Hall is still undergoing the construction which began immediately after Commencement.
The work involves repairs to the building's exterior, Roberto said. When it is completed, there will be a new slate roof, gutters and down spouts.
Repairs will also be done to windows, the building's exterior masonry and the preliminary drainage system.
Finally, the patio has been replaced and there will be new landscaping in front of the building. These two parts of the project have been "pretty much completed," Roberto said.
The rest of the work should be substantially completed in the coming weeks. This is on-track with the anticipated end date established at the beginning of the project.
