Both the men's and women's swimming teams came out on top against Brandeis last night with the women dominating the Judges and the men rallying to earn a solid win.
The women started out strong and never trailed, obliterating the visitors by a final score of 156.5 to 100.5. With a solid time of 1:57.29 in the 200 yard medley relay, the team of sophomores Michelle Caswell and Katie Auerbach, junior Eva Johnson and senior co-captain Chloe Hyman-Young, started the meet off with a Tufts win. Senior co-captain Jess Bollinger had another impressive day with a trio of wins in the 200 freestyle, the 200 backstroke and the 400 IM.
The men had harder work cut out for them. It was not until two key events halfway through the meet -- the 100 freestyle and the 200 backstroke -- that they were able to pull away, winning by a final score of 146 to 106.
Two seniors led the Jumbo men, co-captain Greg Bettencourt and senior Mike Kinsella, each winning two events. Bettencourt blew his opponents out of the water in the 200 freestyle, winning by six seconds, and also took the 500 freestyle. Kinsella won both the 50 free (21.57) and the 100 free (48:63).
Last night wrapped up an undefeated first half of the season for both squads. The women finish the first half of the season 4-0 while the men have turned in an impressive 5-0 record thus far. The Jumbos will now break for the holidays, and resume after New Years with a Jan. 14 match-up at Williams against the host Ephs and Wesleyan.
