As a former columnist for the Daily, I have to say I think that Mr. Bell's piece today ["Benjamin Bell | Spare Me: The perils of trying to contribute," Feb. 14, 2006)] is one of the most improper, useless, counterproductive columns I have ever read.
There are rare circumstances that call for a writer of one publication to bash another. This is certainly not one of them.
Mr. Bell's column solely seeks to exploit a conversation not designed for publication to discuss his own willingness to act professionally. (Yes, movie reviewers sometimes have to see movies they wouldn't want to see otherwise.)
For the Daily to publish this was extremely unethical, considering the lack of any humorous, educational, or even substantial content in the piece.
