Conveniently located on Professors Row next to the Campus Center and across from Tisch Library, the all-female Richardson House has 14 double rooms, nine single rooms and two triples. The light-yellow house, which features wood floors and non-cinder block walls, is home to freshmen, sophomores, juniors and seniors.
For sophomore Kate Beal, Richardson's central location was a major factor in her decision to live there. "My roommate and I are involved in a cappella and theater stuff, so we wanted to be close to Aidekman, but our classes are all uphill," Beal said. Richardson House offered them the perfect central location.
Since Beal and her roommate had lived in Hill Hall last year, which has relatively large rooms, the sophomore said that they wanted to live in a dorm which had similarly large rooms.
Because of its furnishings and architecture, Richardson can seem more like an apartment or house than a dormitory.
For Beal, Richardson's only drawback has been the surprising and repeated theft of the food she's left in the refrigerator. Socially, Beal and her roommate had arranged to live adjacent to two of their friends, so Beal said that while Richardson is not a particularly social dorm, she said that she does feel close with her neighbors.
"When I need to do work, Richardson is a safe haven for me," Beal said. "And when I want, I can bring the social life in ... I really see no drawback to living here."
