2001 Boston Music Awards hits Orpheum tonight

Tonight, the Orpheum Theater will play host to the 15th annual Boston Music Awards. Since the event began in 1987, many artists have been given hometown recognition from such big-name acts as Aerosmith and the Mighty Mighty Bosstones, as well as some dubious groups like the New Kids on the Block. Tonight will be no different, and MTV's Dave Holmes, a graduate of local Holy Cross College, will take his second turn hosting the event. The ceremony will include eight performances, including sets by Mr. Lif, who played Tufts' EPIIC symposium, and local favorites Ellis Paul and Melissa Ferrick performing together. Ticketmaster still has tickets to the show - they'll set you back anywhere from $15 to $100, plus all applicable (if excessive) surcharges.

Below is a list of the nominees in the nine major categories, led by n??-metal rockers Godsmack's seven nominations. Bored and in class? Make your predictions now, and compare them with tonight's outcome. Monday's Daily will have full coverage of the event.
