BØRNS to perform at this year's Spring Fling concert

Indie pop artist BØRNS announced that he is scheduled to perform at Tufts on May 1, the date on which the annual Spring Fling concert organized by the Tufts Concert Board takes place this year. The announcement was made in a now-removed March 28 post on the artist's Facebook page about his performance line-up for the coming weeks.

BØRNS is the stage name for Michigan-born artist Garrett Borns, who released his debut studio album "Dopamine" last October. The singer recently performed as the main act at Fordham University's Winterfest concert on January 29, and has been announced as the headliner for concerts at other universities this spring, including at Southwestern University on April 1 and at Middlebury College on April 9.

Concert Board Co-chairs and juniors Ben Averill, Samantha Berg and Kanika Kamal told the Daily in an email that they are unable to publicly comment about whether BØRNS will be the headliner or an opening act for Spring Fling. They said the full lineup will be announced "very soon."

Concert Board is also holding a "Battle of the Bands" event at Hotung Café on April 7, where five student bands will compete to be one of the opening artists for Spring Fling. The five competing acts are Dirty Nalgene, Space Ink, Tarik, Korumbus and Water Walk.

Despite not confirming BØRNS as a Spring Fling performer, Concert Board has teased news about this year's lineup. On its Facebook page, the board posted a now-deleted link to a Youtube video titled "Spongebob - Where's the Leak Ma'am" and referenced BØRNS in a post that read in part, "We were børn ready for Battle of the Bands 2016."

Last year's Spring Fling headliner, Kesha, was announced to the Tufts community through a Snapchat Geofilter from the Concert Board's own Snapchat account, according to an April 5, 2015 article in the Daily. Late last night, Concert Board posted an image on the Spring Fling Facebook event page that encouraged individuals to connect to a "Springfling" Tinder account, a potential platform for this year's lineup announcement.

In addition to Kesha, previous Spring Fling headliners included artists such as Childish Gambino, Nelly and Lupe Fiasco.
